CERTIFICATE IN NURSING ASSISTANT
A candidate must have passed a minimum of six (6) subjects, which must include:
- a D or better in English language
- a D or better in Mathematics
- a D or better in Physics/Chemistry/ Biology
- a D or better in any other three (3) subjects.
Working experience as a ward attended is an added advantage.
WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY CERTIFICATE IN NURSING ASSISTANT?
Obtaining a certificate in nursing assistant means being part of a multi-professional team of healthcare workers dedicated to rendering health services in diverse settings. The modules are structured according to the core functions of nursing: preventive, promotive, curative, and
rehabilitative.
The course requires full-time study for one year and three months. Upon completing your certificate in nursing, you can work in various healthcare settings such as hospitals, clinics in the community and care homes. A certificate in nursing graduate can progress to a diploma in nursing nationally or internationally.
DIPLOMA IN NURSING
A candidate must have passed a minimum of six (6) subjects, which must include:
- a D or better in Mathematics
- a D or better in English language
- a C or better in Physics/Chemistry
- a C or better in Biology
- a C or better in any other two (2) subjects
OR
- a Certificate in Nursing Assistant passed with merit /Distinction and a minimum of 5 passed subjects at COSC/LGCSE
- Working experience as a Nursing Assistant is an added advantage
WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY DIPLOMA IN NURSING?
Obtaining a nursing qualification means being part of a multi-professional team of healthcare
workers dedicated to rendering health services in diverse settings. Diploma in Nursing trains
you to offer care to people with various illnesses. The modules are structured according to the core functions of nursing: preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative. The course requires full-time study for three years.
Upon completing your diploma, you can work in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals
and clinics in the community or run a private nursing practice.
The higher education fraternity, nationally and internationally, offers a wide variety of opportunities for you to progress in your journey for higher educational qualifications. A diploma in nursing graduate can choose the

DIPLOMA IN MIDWIFERY

WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY DIPLOMA IN MIDWIFERY?
Obtaining a midwifery qualification means being part of a healthcare providing midwifery and obstetric services to clients in diverse settings. A diploma in Midwifery trains you to offer prenatal, antenatal, intrapartum, neonatal, and postnatal care according to clients’ needs. The course requires full-time study for one year. Upon completing your diploma, you can work in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals and clinics in the community, or run a private practice.
A diploma in midwifery graduate can also advance in the following fields of specialization after completion:
• Advanced Diploma in Midwifery
• Post-graduate Diploma in Neonatology
• Master’s Degree in Midwifery
TRANSFER IN APPLICANTS
- Application letter specifying reasons for transferring to Paray School of Nursing.
- Recommendation letter from the Principal Nurse Educator/Rector of previous School of Nursing.
- Transcript of the previous academic year
- Application fee of M600.00
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Application forms together with prospectus will be available from:
a) Paray School of Nursing Campus from the 1st of March 2024
b) School website http://www.parayson.ac.ls from the 22nd of February 2024
c) You can apply online from the institution’s website. Prospective students are expected to complete every section of the application form.
The application form attached with ALL the necessary documents should be submitted to Paray School of Nursing or CHAL offices Maseru or apply online on or before the 31st March 2024. A non-refundable application fee of M350.00 for Basotho, M450.00 for non-Basotho, and M600.00 for transferring in students should be deposited in the school bank account.

REGISTRATION
Registration Fees: A non-refundable registration fee of M 3000.00 should be paid upfront by all first year students including the Diploma in Midwifery students. Continuing students pay registration fee of M750.00 in the first week of every academic year. All payments to be made to the school’s bank account. Proof of payment should be presented to the accounts office.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
Shortlisting: Short-listing of candidates will be done on merit. Interviews for short-listed
candidates will be conducted in April 2023 at Paray School of Nursing campus.
Final selection for admission: The academic results and the performance of the prospective
students in the interview will be part of the criteria used for final selection.
The recommendations of the Admissions Committee of Paray School of Nursing will be final. Only successful candidates will be communicated to through the school website, school Facebook page, and telephonically.
COMMENCEMENT OF TRAINING
Note that once admission is complete, the Certificate in Nursing Assistant and the Diploma in
Nursing will commence in July 2023. The diploma in Midwifery programme will commence in June 2024.
REGISTRATION
Registration Fees: A non-refundable registration fee of M 3200.00 should be paid upfront by all first-year students including the Diploma in Midwifery students. Continuing students pay a registration fee of M800.00 in the first week of every academic year. All payments are to be made to the school’s bank account using details on page 12 of the prospectus. Proof of payment should be presented to the accounts office.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS)
All Basotho students can receive sponsorship to pursue their studies at Paray School of Nursing from NMDS if they meet both NMDS criteria and the school’s admission requirements.
Admission to Paray School of Nursing does not guarantee sponsorship by NMDS. The outcome of sponsorship rests upon NMDS sponsorship eligibility criteria.
However, NMDS does not cover all the expenses incurred in the training process and the school shall therefore alert prospective students of the ensuing expectation to complement the deficit.
Bursaries
Students with bursaries should provide proof of payment through bank deposit slips to the accounts office during the registration period.
ACCOMMODATION
All admitted students are expected to reside within the school’s halls of residence.
CATERING
Meals will be provided by the school. Eating from school is compulsory.
STUDENT VISAS
All foreign students are expected to obtain a study permit from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Department of Immigration). It is the student’s responsibility to secure a study permit from the respective offices before the commencement of training.
STUDENT IDENTIFICATION CARDS
All new students will be issued identification cards at Paray School of Nursing. Students are expected to wear identification cards in the clinical area at all times.
MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS
All new students will undergo medical examinations during the orientation week. These medical examinations will be conducted at Paray Hospital. Female students will be tested for pregnancy and a positive test will result in the student’s deferring from pursuing studies with Paray School of Nursing in accordance with the School’s Admission Policy.
ORIENTATION
The purpose of the orientation program in the School of Nursing is to introduce new students to the functioning of the school, the curriculum, the staff members, academic activities, academic support services, Student Representative Council and to assist them with general adjustment to the academic and personal demands of the School. This program is done in the first two weeks of July 2024.
